The Transition Project began in 2003 and works with Year 6 young people who are planning to enter Ruffwood from Overdale and Ravenscroft Primary Schools.
The project also supports young people in years 7 and 8 who are already at Ruffwood School. Young people currently on the project are being supported at the moment as their school merges with another local school.
The current Transition group recently took part in a programme called E.S.C.A.P.E (Experiencing Success, Challenging Attitudes, Perceptions and Expectations) working alongside Merseyside Police, which aimed at building relationships between young people and the Police service. This was done by encouraging the young people to look at common misconceptions of the Police by getting to know the people behind the uniform.
Together with local police, the group tried out new activities such as arts, abseiling and rock climbing and were treated to an alternative tour of their city. They visited Liverpool museums and restaurants to experience some of the cultural diversity the city has to offer.
After getting to know their local police officers, they even got to meet the police horses and check out the helicopter!
