Investing in British youth

Following publication of its report The Institute for Public Policy Research has called for “a legal extension” to the school day, calling for compulsory after-school activities for young people to give them more focus outside school hours.

The scheme is part of a 10-year strategy to improve facilities and community projects for young people, including more support for youth clubs and voluntary groups. The strategy also set out plans for ‘coming of age ceremonies’ similar to those in the United States, a Youth Week to highlight young people’s achievements and a National Institute of Youth Leadership.
