Charlie Castle received a personal letter from the queen after she found his balloon.

The balloons were all set off as part of an end of term celebration. Charlie was one of 80 children who participated.

His balloon travelled 14 miles to Windsor Castle where the queen was walking her corgis.

The Queens personal assistant returned the balloon to Charlie along with a letter from the Queen.

She wrote: “Her Majesty the Queen has asked me to write to tell you that she found your balloon in her garden at Windsor Castle when she was walking her dogs. Her Majesty was delighted to see how far it had flown and was so happy it was your balloon she found.”

Charlie said: “It was so exciting to get the letter. I was surprised my balloon had flown so far. I’m just glad that the Queen’s dogs didn’t eat it!” His mother, Kylie, said that she nearly dropped the phone when she found out. She says: “It’s lovely the Queen cares about the normal things in life and appreciates what a five-year-old cares about.”

Fifteen out of the eighty balloons were returned. The furthest one had travelled all the way to Bordeaux, France.
