A lollipop man has quit his job after he was banned from giving kids ‘high fives’ as they crossed the road.
John Hunter, who helped loads of children cross the road outside Corstorphine Primary School in Edinburgh for 10 years, decided to retire after a few people complained that he handed out sweets and high-fived children at the roadside.
“I’ve built up a strong relationship with them over the years and I’m going to miss them a lot. It’s a rotten way to go,” he said.
Mr Hunter was told to stop giving high fives as it was a health risk and to stop handing out sweets after he gave a chocolate with nuts in to a child that had an allergy to them.
One parent said: “All the children love Mr Hunter. I can understand why they asked him not to give out sweets, but not the high fives.”
