Scottish drinks firm workers were given a shock when two dangerous and deadly black widow spiders were hidden in crates imported from America.

The most threatening spiders in the world were small and black and have the most lethal spider bites in the world were found in crates from Napa, California.

A spokesperson for the company reported that received an estimated 372 crates since the start of the year but this was the first sighting of any spiders.

Staff have now been given safety advice at their warehouse in Clackmannanshire and been told to wear gloves and boots when dealing with deliveries from the USA and given advice on how to correctly handle spiders.

As for the spiders that were found, they died after being discovered.
